The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has urged parents to ensure the safety of their children when they are playing on the zip wire in a newly refurbished playground that reopened on Saturday last week in Reservatório Park, the public park surrounding the peninsula’s reservoir.
The bureau made the warning in a statement on Tuesday. According to local media reports, a number of children were slightly injured when playing on the zip wire since the reopening of the playground.
Tuesday’s IAM statement pointed out that a person playing on the zip wire is propelled by gravity from the top to the bottom of the inclined cable, urging parents not to push their children when playing on the zip wire.
The Municipal Affairs Bureau commenced a project in April this year to renovate two playgrounds in Reservoir Park, namely Playground A and Playground B. Playground A is located near the Marbela residential estate on Rua dos Pescadores, while Playground B is situated on Estrada do Reservatório, or near the Jai Alai casino-hotel complex.
An IAM statement on Friday last week announced that the project’s first phase, which renovated Playground A, had been completed. It reopened to members of the public on Saturday last week, i.e., National Day.
Last Friday’s IAM statement said that the project’s second phase, the still ongoing renovation of Playground B, was expected to be completed in this year’s fourth quarter, i.e., the current quarter.
According to last Friday’s statement, the project’s first phase enlarged the size of Playground A from 90 square metres to 750 square metres.
According to an IAM statement in April, the project’s ongoing second phase will enlarge the size of Playground B from 200 square metres to 950 square metres.
Last Friday’s statement announced that a zip wire for children has been set up in Playground A, the first of its kind in Macau. Last Friday’s statement said that playing on the zip wire is “challenging” because of which parents should always give assistance while their children are playing on it. The zip wire is suitable for kids aged between 5 and 12, the statement said.
In the wake of minor accidents reported by local media outlets, Tuesday’s IAM statement urged parents not to push their children while they are playing on the zip wire with the aim of preventing accidents.
Tuesday’s statement also said that the bureau had installed speakers to remind parents about the matter.
Meanwhile, local media outlets reported on Wednesday that protective foam has been installed at the lower end of the zip wire with the aim of protecting children from hurting themselves.
