The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested three men for allegedly burgling a flat in the northern district on Tuesday, PJ spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a special press conference yesterday.

According to Choi, the victim is a local taxi driver. His personal information was not released. Choi did not reveal how the trio managed to enter the victim’s flat.

The three suspects comprise a 31-year-old surnamed Zhang who told police that he works as an electrician, a 33-year-old surnamed Lu who told police that he is a construction worker, and a 38-year-old surnamed Lu who also told police that he is a construction worker. The two Lus are not related.

According to Choi, the victim told the police that he left his flat at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. When he returned to his flat at around noon time, he discovered that the wardrobe in his bedroom had been forced open. The victim called the police.

Cash, comprising patacas, yuan, Singapore dollars, Canadian dollars, US dollars and some gold jewellery had vanished. The total amount of the stolen valuables is about 39,000 patacas, Choi said.

After scrutinising the residential building’s CCTV footage, PJ officers identified the three suspects who committed the burglary. They followed residents who opened the entrance door as they entered the building, Choi said.

After the burglary, the suspects tried to break into a residential flat in Fai Chi Kei district and a unit in a commercial building in Sai Van district but they failed in their attempts, Choi said.

PJ officers nabbed the suspects when they were about to leave Macau via the Barrier Gate checkpoint on Wednesday morning, Choi said.

A stolen gold ring was found on Zhang while a stolen gold necklace was found on 38-year-old Lu, the spokesman said. Some stolen cash was found on 33-year-old Lu, Choi added.

The trio have been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP). They face possible arraignments on aggravated theft charges, Choi said.

According to Choi, the police also discovered that each of the three suspects has a criminal record for burglary on the mainland.
