Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said at a regular press conference on Friday that a male civil servant was arrested on September 30 for surreptitiously taking daily videos of a woman who lives opposite his flat in the peninsula’s Santo António district.

According to Cheong, the 30-year-old suspect, surnamed Chong, works for the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM).

Cheong said that the local victim, who is in her thirties, reported to the police at 1:25 p.m. on September 29 that she saw a video recorder pointed at her flat on the window of a flat in the building opposite hers, so she suspected that someone was secretly taking videos of her.

The Public Security Police summoned Chong to the PSP headquarters for further investigation on the night of September 30, Cheong said, adding that Chong told the police that due to his curiosity about the victim’s daily life, he had spent more than 300 patacas on buying the video recorder, and set it up on the window of his flat.

Chong admitted that he began to take videos of the victim around the clock on September 29 to watch her activities while she was at home. Chong insisted that the video was for his own viewing only, according to Cheong.

Cheong said that Chong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he faces an invasion of privacy charge.
