A mainlander has confessed to making his own bank cards with which he managed to withdraw a total of HK$59,000 from a number of a local bank’s automated teller machines (ATMs), the Judiciary Police (PJ) announced in a special press conference yesterday.

According to a PJ spokesman, the 30-year-old suspect, surnamed Liu, claimed to be unemployed. He was nabbed on Saturday at the Barrier Gate checkpoint when he was about to leave Macau.

The spokesman said that PJ officials received a report from a local bank back in January that they had found two fake bankcards in one of their ATMs in Zape.
