A taxi passenger – a local Portuguese – refused to show his ID card to the police on October 2 and insulted the officers in English, Portuguese and Cantonese, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said at a regular press conference yesterday.

Leong said that the 52-year-old suspect surnamed Anselmo told the police that he’s a casino surveillance staff.

According to Leong, police officers intercepted a taxi for a regular check in Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen on October 2 and asked its passenger, Anselmo, to present his Macau ID card.

Leong said that Anselmo did not cooperate with the officers and started insulting them in English. One of the officers warned him to stop swearing at them, while another officer began filming the scene as a matter of record, Leong said, adding that Anselmo then cursed the officers in Portuguese and then in Cantonese. He was arrested for being uncooperative and was taken to a police station.

No illegal items were found on Anselmo. Leong pointed out that Anselmo had his ID card with him. Anselmo has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an aggravated insult charge, according to Leong.
