The premises of a renovation company on the ground floor of a residential building near Praça de Ponte e Horta (known in Cantonese as Si Ta Hau) caught fire last night without causing any injuries, the Fire Services Bureau (CB) said in a statement.
The fire occurred on Travessa de Chan Loc at around 7 p.m. yesterday, when the company was closed.
Residents in the neighbourhood called the emergency services after seeing smoke coming from the ground-floor business unit.
When arriving at the scene, the statement said, firefighters had to pry open the company’s metal gate, before hosing down the burning area. It took them a while to extinguish the blaze.
According to the statement, a quantity of fluorescent lamps and construction materials were gutted by the fire. The area affected by the fire covered about three metres by two metres.
In addition, the statement said, the firefighters removed inflammable items such as cans of paint from the renovation company.
The firefighters said, according to the statement, they believed that a short circuit was the possible cause of the fire, the statement said.
