MGM and the Fuhong Society of Macau launched the “MGM x Fuhong: Empowering All with Inclusive Art – Macau in 0.38mm Strokes” last Saturday, exhibiting paintings by Fuhong’s autistic artist Leong Ieng Wai digitally at MGM COTAI’s The Spectacle, the resort operator said in a statement this week.
The statement noted that the exhibition was created to showcase the talents of people with autism and promote social inclusion in the community. Around 50 of Leong’s paintings that portray Macau’s cityscape are digitally showcased several times a day on The Spectacle’s LED screens.
The exhibition, according to the statement, starts with monochrome paintings and concludes with colourful ones, representing Leong’s personal story how he integrated himself into civil society and “shone through the power of art”. The exhibition is named after Leong’s distinctive “0.38” painterly trademark, “characterised by his delicate, thin-lined strokes using 0.38mm pens”.
The statement said that MGM and Fuhong intend to create an extended platform for people with disabilities to showcase their talents and for members of the public to better understand “the infinite potential of autistic people”.
The launch ceremony was attended by a number of guests such as Zhao Heqing, deputy director-general of the Social Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, and Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.
The “World Mental Health Day Series Event 2022: Co-shape a Harmonious Society” was also inaugurated to celebrate World Mental Health Day on October 10, the statement noted. The event featured activities such as performances, art workshops, and charity sales, to foster more understanding between the general public and individuals affected by mental issues.
The statement added that 200 participants from 20 educational institutions, local associations, enterprises, and the Golden Lion Volunteer Team attended the event. Moreover, nearly all participants jointly created a combined art piece comprising 15 collage artworks symbolising “a harmonious society towards a common goal”, the statement said.
Meanwhile, MGM said it will also continue to sponsor the printing of this year’s edition of the “Chinese Almanac for Mental Health”.
