Benson Lam Iam Sang, a local artist-cum-interior designer who designs and makes 3D paper art, a paper engineer, is holding an exhibition, which was postponed in July due to Macau’s COVID-19 outbreak, showing a preview of his 3D artwork at the Portuguese Bookshop (Livraria Portuguesa) in the city centre from today until November 4.

Lam said at the opening ceremony on Saturday that the artwork on display was a preview for his exhibition that will be held at Creative Macau from January 7 to 21 next year.

On display are geometric roses in frames, a lion with Chinese and Portuguese characteristics and what Lam calls “Crystal Frames” in which a 3D model is deconstructed and painstakingly reconstructed in layers and framed. Lam said, “I am introducing the possibility of paper engineering by using 3D to develop 3D to produce other work.” The end result is an amazing picture.

Lam said that since the exhibition at Creative Macau will be on before the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day next year, he will be making more roses and calendars as they will be a good idea for gifts.

The exhibition is on in the Livraria Portuguesa basement gallery until November 4, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, except Sundays.
