The Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement on Friday that school staff and residents recently reported to them that a woman had attacked passers-by in the street, so their officers were immediately dispatched to intercept the woman.

According to the statement, the woman was agitated and uncooperative when PSP officers stopped her in the street, so in order to prevent her from harming herself and others, the officers restrained her with appropriate force and took her to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for a medical examination.

After a medical assessment, the woman was referred to the public hospital’s psychiatric ward in Taipa for treatment, the statement noted.

The Public Security Police urged the woman’s victims to report their cases to the police.
