The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday that it is calling for registered artistic troupes, schools, community organisations and institutions in Macau to join the Parade for Celebration of the Chinese New Year (CNY) 2023, with applications open until November 17.

According to the statement, MGTO plans to host the event on January 24 and January 28, which are the 3rd and 7th day of the Lunar New Year, to celebrate with members of the public in the central and northern districts. The event will feature highlights such as the float parade, cultural and artistic performances as well as a float exhibition.

Performance groups will participate in the float parade from 8 p.m.-10 p.m. on January 24, starting from Sai Van Lake Square, moving along Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen until they reach the Macao Science Centre. Each stop on the parade route, the statement underlined, requires each group to give a short performance. They must also attend rehearsals and the traditional worship ceremony.

The parade’s theme, the statement noted, will be around the rabbit. By bringing out its characteristics and love for challenges, “the event is set to convey wishes for the diversification and prosperity of the local industries as the economy moves forwards with new momentum” in Macau, the statement said.

Applicants and performance groups will be appraised by the organiser according to the following: “theme and idea, local distinctive elements, uniqueness and attractiveness, relevance to the event, as well as the groups’ performance experiences”. The groups will be granted performance fees according to their proposal content, number of performers and props, among other things. More details can be found on the parade’s Recruitment Programme at https://industry.macaotourism.gov.mo.

Applications can be submitted to MGTO on the 12th floor of Hotline Building in Alameda Dr Carlos d’ Assumpção, while enquiries can be made by calling 8397 1029 or emailing dtne@macaotourism.gov.mo.

The event, the statement emphasised, will be conducted in line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, while arrangements will be made in case of cancellations due to force majeure.
