The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau’s (SMG) said on its website at 3 a.m. this morning  that the probability of hoisting Signal No. 8 today was “relatively low”, unless Typhoon “Nesat” took a more northerly track near Macau.

The weather station hoisted Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 at 4:30 p.m. yesterday. It said Signal No. 3 would remain in effect at least later this morning.

The observatory noted that at 3 a.m. yesterday Nesat was located about 390 km south-southeast of Macau, moving towards the coast of Vietnam.

A statement by the bureau this morning noted that Nesat, located over the northern part of the South China Sea, was continuously moving southwest, crossing the northern part of the South China Sea at a distance of about 400 km south of Macau.

The statement said that there was a “low” probability of issuing a Blue Storm Surge warning.

According to the statement, “significant flooding” would not result in the Inner Harbour area from a storm surge, but “slight flooding” might occur in the southern Inner Harbour area due to the combined impact of strong wind and swells.

Meanwhile, the weather station said it expected today’s weather to be cloudy with a few showers.
