Local artist Wong Weng Cheong is showcasing his works in CATCH IT OUTSIDE 2.0 – Printmaking Solo Exhibition at the Taipa Village Living Space until October 28.

According to a statement from the Taipa Village Cultural Association, a selection of works from Wong’s first solo exhibition “Catch It Outside”, which opened at the Be-Kyoto Gallery in Japan in 2018, are on show at the local exhibition. He is an apprentice of local printmaking master and instructor James Wong Cheng Pou.

The statement noted that his take on traditional printmaking techniques “has been to embrace the digital technology of 3D rendering to model still-life compositions” that create “hyper-realistic images that could almost pass as photographic depictions”.

Wong had been considered an emerging artist in the local art scene, the statement said. He was the youngest artist chosen to exhibit his work at the first Macau Printmaking Triennial in 2013 and subsequently received a scholarship to study Fine Art at the Goldsmiths, University of London, from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), where he utilised techniques he learnt from his instructor.

The statement added that some of Wong’s works have been collected by cultural institutions, while his recent exhibitions include “Above The Descending” at Macau’s Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Site in 2020 and “Somewhere Still Wild” at the Casa Garden Gallery in 2021.

The venue is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. with free admission. In line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, visitors must wear a facemask, undergo a temperature check, present a valid green Macau Health Code and scan the Venue QR code.
