SJM Resorts Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung promised yesterday that her company “will continue to uphold its ‘Love the Motherland, Love Macau’ core value, and encourage team members to learn from the 20th National Congress [of the Communist Party of China] report.”

Ho made the pledge in a speech during a National Day reception at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Lisboa Macau.

According to a statement by SJM Resorts, it hosted the reception for about 120 management members in conjunction with the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee (SWCC) and SJM Joint Consultative Committee (SJCC).

Communist Party of China (CPC) General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important speech during the opening session of the Party’s 20th National Congress at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sunday, based on a report by the Party.

Ho, a daughter of late gaming tycoon Stanley Ho Hung Sun, also said that SJM “will continue to firmly support the government in advancing the cause of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ and cementing the principle of ‘patriots governing Macau’.”

She also underlined that as “Macau is ushering in a new chapter for its gaming industry, we are full of confidence in Macau’s future and will continue to support the government in promoting economic diversification and fostering innovation, telling Macau’s story and conveying China’s voice.”

SJM is among the seven companies bidding for the up to six gaming concessions to be granted by the government by the end of the year.

Ho also said that “President Xi earnestly cares for Macau as evidenced during the [COVID-19] pandemic, when immediate medical and policy support were sent our way to help weather the health crisis.”

She added that “with the opening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, SJM proudly joins hands with all the people in China to embark on a new journey to advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts.”

The statement quoted SWCC Director and Chairwoman Angela Leong On Kei as hailing “the many momentous achievements China made in the year.” Leong, a directly-elected lawmaker, also said that “this year, the gaming industry will undergo a significant transformation.”

The statement underlined that “SJM has long been an active promoter of national education,” adding that the company “consistently encourages a sense of national identity among staff and promotes loyalty to the Motherland and Macau.”

According to Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) data, SJM owns 20 of Macau’s 37 casinos, or 54 percent of the total number run by six rival gaming operators.
