Melco Resorts and Entertainment said in a statement this week that its Splendours of China learning programme aims to promote patriotism by educating staff and the local community about the nation’s cultural heritage and Chinese mainland’s economic policies, social systems and values.
The statement noted that in celebration of National Day, Melco volunteers are also participating in a month-long celebration with the local community, which started in late September and continues throughout October.
The celebrations, according to the statement, are carried out in collaboration with the resort operator’s non-governmental organisation (NGO) partners: the Women’s General Association of Macau (commonly known as Fu Luen in Cantonese); Concórdia School for Special Education; Pou Tai Elderly Integrated Service Centre; the Macau Federation of Trade Unions’ (FAOM) Ka Ho Nursing Home; FAOM Chong Pak Chi Ka and Chong Pak Chi Ka Taipa; and the llha Verde Neighbourhood Association.
The statement said that “quiz games related to knowledge on China and important milestones of the Communist Party’s 100-year history”, and patriotic singing competitions are among the activities held that aim to instil national pride and patriotism through education.
As the activities continue this month, Melco, the statement added, will be dedicating 250 hours to over 400 beneficiaries such as senior citizens and students with special needs.
