Israeli-American economist Oded Galor has been invited by the University of Macau (UM) to be guest speaker at its talk titled “The Journey of Humanity: The Origins of Wealth and Inequality”, which is part of the University Lecture Series, next Friday, the public university said in a statement yesterday.

Galor, who is Herbert H. Goldberger Professor of Economics at Brown University, will explore relationships between several major issues of humanity such as development, poverty and inequality during the talk, the statement noted. He advanced the “unified growth theory”, which the statement said was having a “strong influence” on economic development and “the development of humanity”.

The statement said that the talk will focus on Galor’s new book “The Journey of Humanity: The Origins of Wealth and Inequality”, which was published earlier this year in 30 languages. He will also talk about “why humans have progressed so unequally around the world”, which results in “great disparities between nations that exist today” and what one can do to improve one’s life.

The talk, according to the statement, will start at 10:30 a.m. and will be conducted in English. It will be held online and in a physical setting with livestreaming at UM’s University Hall (N2).

Registration to physically attend the talk can be made at https://isw.um.edu.mo/evm/register/uls_1028a.
