A father and son were arrested after they engaged in a fist fight, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspects surnamed Man are aged 64 and 22 respectively. The father is jobless and the son is a student. The son lives with his parents in the northern district.
Lou said that the Mans have a dysfunctional relationship where they would berate each other and threaten each other with items such as metal bars and a hammer over trivial matters, but had never actually physically fought – until Saturday afternoon.
According to Lou, on that day the son complained that his father was taking too long in the bathroom as well as smoking in there. Again, the son picked up a hammer that was under his bed and started yelling at his father, but this time his father retaliated and punched his son in the head, after which the son grazed his father’s face with the hammer.
The Mans then got into a fist fight, causing the mother to report the incident to the police. The Mans were arrested later and underwent a medical examination, with the father sustaining injuries to his head, while the son sustained injuries to his knee, waist and head.
Both were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Tuesday, facing charges of causing bodily harm. The son also faces a charge of possessing a weapon, Lou added.
