The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said in a statement that it hoisted the Tropical Cyclone Signal No.3 at 3 a.m. when Typhoon “Nalgae” was located about 500 kilometres southeast of Macau.

The hoisting of Signal No. 3 means that winds with a sustained speed of 41 to 62 km/h are expected or blowing while gusts may exceed 110 km/h.

The weather station pointed out that Nalgae was expected to move northwards and slowly approach the coastal area of Guangdong.

The bureau had hoisted the Standby Signal No.1 at 1 a.m. yesterday.

The statement said that the probability of issuing Typhoon Signal No.8 tomorrow evening or early Thursday morning was “medium”, however, it pointed out that the probability of hoisting the Blue Storm Surge warning this afternoon and evening was “relatively high”.

The weather station noted in the statement that under the joint impact of Nalgae and a northeast monsoon, local winds would gradually intensify, and it predicted that the weather would be cloudy with occasional showers and cooler in the next couple of days.

According to the observatory, due to the astronomical high tide in the next few days, flooding may occur in the Inner Harbour area between midnight tomorrow and early Thursday.
