The Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) announced in a statement yesterday that no lifeguards will be on duty at the city’s two beaches – Cheoc Van (Bamboo Bay) and Hac Sa (Black Sand) – during the off-season that started on Monday, adding that boundary floats at the swimming area of the beaches will also be removed.

The bureau urged members of the public to pay extra care when engaging in water activities at the beaches as there are no lifeguards on duty.

During the swimming season, about 131 rescues were provided by lifeguards at the beaches, while in terms of beach water quality, the two beaches failed water quality tests five times, which were due to typhoons or heavy rain, according to the statement.

Beach and coastal inspections will continue after the end of the swimming season, the bureau underlined.
