Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said in a press conference yesterday that a boy had thrown flaming pieces of paper from his family flat’s balcony.
The boy, living with his grandmother and a girl in a flat on the 11th floor of a residential building in Fai Chi Kei, is under 10 years old. Ho did not elaborate on the relationship between the boy and the girl.
According to Ho, a shopkeeper and a resident on the 9th floor reported to the police separately on Sunday that they saw pieces of burning paper flying past the shop window and their balcony respectively.
The shopkeeper and the resident separately extinguished the fire, Ho said, adding that no one was injured in the incident, and no one had reported property damage.
Police investigating the case found out that the burning pieces of paper were thrown from a flat on the 11th floor, and subsequently identified the boy. Ho added that CCTV footage showed the boy leaving the building right after he had thrown the flaming pieces of paper from the balcony.
The boy and his father went to a police station on Monday where the boy admitted his action, adding that he did it “just for fun”.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), Ho said.
The age of criminal responsibility in Macau is 16.
