A forum on protecting and sustainably developing the heritage of the Maritime Silk Road opened yesterday.
According to a statement by the Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the two-day Maritime Silk Road International Cultural Forum at the Convention Center of the Macau Science Center aims to share the fruits of protection and research on the heritage of the Maritime Silk Road, help delegates and residents understand the importance of the heritage, and continuously step up exchanges and cooperation on protection of heritage in regions along the route.
Experts and scholars from the China Academy of Cultural Heritage, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Beijing Cluster Office, as well as from Indonesia and Malaysia, are discussing the history of the Maritime Silk Road and ways to protect its heritage along the route.
Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U said at the forum that Macau will continue stepping up cooperation with other cities to facilitate the nomination of the Maritime Silk Road for UNESCO World Heritage listing.
The deputy director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, Guan Qiang, delivered yesterday a keynote presentation entitled “50th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage – World Heritage in China”.
The forum is being held with simultaneous translations into Putonghua, Cantonese, English,and Portuguese. – Xinhua, MPD
