The victim was surnamed Aslarona who lived with his family.

Aslarona is a rare Philippine name, according to the Forebears genealogy portal.

According to the statement, the Judiciary Police were notified by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) at about 2:16 p.m. that they found a man lying on a building’s podium in Taipa. The police later identified him as Aslarona.

The victim’s family told the police that Aslarona had been an introvert and had felt lonely.

According to a preliminary examination of the body, the deceased sustained multiple abrasions and fractures, which were caused by “falling from a height”, but the exact cause of death could only be confirmed by a forensic examination, the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the other statement noted that the 55-year-old victim, surnamed Tam, lived in a flat in Areia Preta district.

Tam’s son told the police that the deceased had been suffering from headaches and tinnitus for months and could not sleep.

The statement said that yesterday afternoon Tam had not shown up for a gathering with his relatives. When they went to his flat to look for him later in the afternoon, the relatives saw him lying unconscious on the bed, the statement said.

The statement noted that there was a metal stove on the floor, with charcoal still burning inside. The relatives called the police immediately. The firefighters arrived at the scene and rushed him to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for treatment, but it was later confirmed that Tam had died.

Upon examination of the body, no suspicious injuries were found, the statement added.

Anyone with suicidal thoughts looking for assistance is urged to call the Caritas hotline 2852-5222 or the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) counselling hotline 2826-1126.
