City University of Macau Rector Zhang Shuguang said yesterday that some 60 percent of the new students for this academic year are locals.

Zhang made the remarks while speaking to reporters after attending an orientation ceremony for the new academic year on the campus in Taipa.

According to Zhang, there are some 1,600 new students, comprising all degree levels, attending the private university in the new academic year, around the same as last year. Zhang pointed out that the number of school leavers in Macau has been dropping in recent years.
