Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Company Limited (Industrial Park) said in a statement yesterday that a type of “Pain Relief Cream”, a Chinese patent medicine (CPM) for external use that has been in the local market for many years, successfully obtained the Drug Registration Certificate issued by Guangdong Provincial Medical Products Administration on November 11.

With the “strong support” of the administration, the statement said, the product has become Macau’s second CPM for external use approved for marketing in the mainland through a simplified registration and approval procedure.

Under the “strict control” of the review and approval standards and procedures, the Industrial Park has received technical support from the administration in different aspects, such as in policy guidance, technology upgrading and improvement, and registration for data standardisation, the statement noted.

According to the statement, the successful registration of the product in the mainland indicates that Macau-based pharmaceutical companies have taken advantage of the policy dividends resulting from the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone to gradually step out of the local market and accelerate the pace of integration with the mainland market.

Meanwhile, a joint statement by the Industrial Park and the Economic and Technology Development Bureau (DSEDT) yesterday noted that as of the end of last month, the Industrial Park has completed the registration of 230 companies, including 60 from Macau, and 91 contracted partnership enterprises, 34 of which are Macau companies.

In addition to attracting the settlement of several renowned pharmaceutical companies from the mainland, the Industrial Park has also cultivated a certain number of local companies, covering various fields, such as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), food supplements, medical equipment, medical services, biomedicine and scientific and technological services, gradually forming an industrial agglomeration effect, the statement said.

According to the statement, the bureau has already issued industrial licences to nine TCM factories and seven “big health” pharmaceutical factories.
