Artists Feng Zhongyun and Elisa Sighicelli are showcasing their works and art styles through the “Ink Wash • Abstraction” exhibition at Sands Gallery, which is located on the 6th floor of the Grand Suites at Four Seasons in Cotai.

The exhibition, which is organised by Sands China, Lotus Art and Rossi & Rossi Gallery, presents over 30 works of Chinese contemporary ink painting and Italian abstract photography.

Sands China held an opening ceremony at the gallery yesterday, with the exhibition being part of the company’s “commitment to the diversification of art and culture in Macau”, a statement provided by the company yesterday noted. It is the artists’ first joint exhibition in Asia.

Feng, an ink artist, was born in Beijing in 1967 and, according to the statement, “is well-known for his unrestrained painting style”. He has been exploring the innovations and expressions of contemporary art and traditional ink for over 30 years and is a graduate of Central Academy of Fine Arts’ Chinese Painting Department. He lives and works in Macau.

His works have been exhibited in, and collected by art institutions and museums such as the National Art Museum of China in Beijing and the Fujiyama Museum in Tokyo, among others, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Sighicelli, who was born in Turin in 1968, received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from London’s Kingston University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Slade School of Fine Art at London’s University College. The statement said that she captures the “subtle beauty” of sculptures, architecture and still-life objects through

experimental photography techniques on “unexpected and novel media” including marble and satin.

She has held solo shows in Spain and France, among others, while her artwork has also been displayed in group exhibitions worldwide such as in Israel and France, as well as the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts.

Yesterday’s event was attended by guests such as Yin Rutao, deputy director-general of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau, Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai, Macau Lotus TV President Li Zisong.

In his speech, Wong said that the company was “pleased to bring another unique and stimulating exhibition” to the gallery, adding that it “is an inspiring display of artistic mastery”. He added that Sands China hopes that the artists’ works will “bring an impressive feast for the eyes to visitors”.

The exhibition runs until January 8 and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
