A woman was arrested on Friday for stealing five chips worth HK$10,000 each from a male gambler in a casino in Zape earlier that day, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a press conference yesterday.

The suspect is a 35-year-old woman from the mainland surnamed Fu who told the police that she works in an agricultural company.

According to Ho, the mainland victim left five HK$10,000 chips on a table in the casino’s smoking lounge on Friday and went to chat with his friend. Fu surreptitiously stole the chips when the man wasn’t looking, left the area and cashed in the chips.

After the victim realised that the chips were gone, he reported the case to the police. Fu was intercepted later that day by a security guard of the casino.

Under questioning, Fu admitted taking the chips, claiming that she was merely “keeping” them for the victim.

Fu has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an aggravated theft charge, according to Ho.
