12,000 to compete in Macau marathon: Sports Bureau

The Sports Bureau (ID) said in a statement yesterday that the 2022 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon, which is slated for Sunday, will have the participation of 12,000 people.

The event will go ahead as scheduled, irrespective of the current COVID-19 predicament in Macau.

Currently in its 41st edition, the statement noted that the marathon and half-marathon will start at 6 a.m., while the mini-marathon will commence at 6:15 a.m. at the Olympic Sports Centre’s stadium in Taipa. Runners in both the marathon and half-marathon will once again run over Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, (known locally as the Old Bridge) to A-Ma Temple, and then over Sai Van Bridge.

Commemorative medals, according to the statement, will be awarded to participants who finish within the stated time in their category.

The statement again urged participants to follow COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures. All participants, the statement said, must have completed their primary COVID-19 vaccine at least by November 20 and make their own arrangements for their nucleic acid tests (NAT).

Moreover, participants must present a valid green Macau Health Code a 24-hour valid negative NAT result and a negative rapid antigen test (RAT) result undergone on the race day when entering the venue and in order to take part in the race, the statement underlined.

The statement said that participants who have not yet collected their bibs can still do so today from 12 noon to 9 p.m., and tomorrow from 12 noon to 10 p.m. after presenting the required documents from the participants or representatives collecting the bibs on their behalf.

Meanwhile, there will be traffic control measures in place from 11 p.m. on Saturday, while public roads used for the marathon course being closed to traffic from 4:45 a.m. on Sunday and will be reopened in phases. More details are available at www.macaomarathon.com.
