Macau's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced today two more COVID-19 fatalities - a 56-year-old fully vaccinated male and a 63-year-old unvaccinated male, which raised the city's novel coronavirus death toll 13.

According to a statement by the centre, both victims had suffered from underlying diseases.

The 56-year-old victim had suffered from high blood pressure, stroke, secondary epilepsy, and oesophageal cancer. He had been vaccinated three times against COVID-19. The patient, who had tested positive for the disease on Tuesday last week, was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia and hypotension on Saturday. He passed away yesterday.

The 63-year-old victim had suffered from hypertension, diabetes and tuberculosis (TB). The man, who had tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, died yesterday after suffering both cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest.

The centre also said that 97 new patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were admitted to the Health Bureau's isolation and treatment facilities yesterday.

Macau diagnosed its first COVID-19 case in January 2020.

The government has recently relaxed its COVID-19 prevention and control measures. Health Bureau (SSM) officials have warned that up to 80 percent of the population will be infected with the novel coronavirus over the next few weeks. Macau's population stood at 671,900 at the end of the third quarter, according to official demographics.

As of yesterday, Macau's COVID-19 tally stood at 1,427 confirmed cases (not including asymptomatic cases).
