The observatory said in a statement yesterday that the current winter monsoon would ease and the temperature “would rise slightly” in the next few days, but the weather would remain cold in the morning and the evening, with a “large temperature difference” between day and night.
The weather station forecast today’s weather to be cloudy at the beginning of the day with some sunshine during the day, while sunny and dry weather was expected on the winter solstice on Thursday.
The strong winter monsoon over the weekend has brought strong winds and cold weather to Macau, the statement said, with the lowest temperature recorded on Big Taipa Hill over the past two days being 8.5 degrees Celsius, which was the lowest temperature so far this winter.
Meanwhile, the observatory has issued a Yellow cold weather alert, which indicates that the cold weather was expected to continue in the next few days, with the lowest temperature of 12 degrees Celsius or below.
The weather station urged members of the public, especially senior citizens, children and people with chronic illnesses to put on more clothes and to stay warm.
