The winners of the 4th Zhuhai international Mozart Competition for Young Musicians will be performing tonight with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO), featuring Hunan violinist Li Jinzhu and Shanghai pianist Wu Younan, according to a statement by the organisers of the competition.
The competition series and the concerts are organised by the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government and Mozarteum University Salzburg.
The Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians was initially set up in 2015 and has since been held every two years. The competition is judged by internationally renowned musicians, the statement pointed out, adding that due to the COVID-19 pandemic the judging process was held online in September. Today’s concert, which will be performed by Li and Wu – who are both aged 15 – and conductor Hu Yongyan, marks the end of the competition.
The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1982. According to a statement from the orchestra, SZSO has since then undertaking international tours and collaborations with famous musicians, aiming to become one of Asia’s leading orchestras on the global stage.
Li and Wu are frequent international music award and scholarship winners, and they both won the second places in the Group B violin and piano competitionsrespectively in September, in which young musicians aged between 13 and 16 competed.
The concert will kick off with Mozart’s famous overture from Le nozze di Figaro K. 492 (“The marriage of Figaro”). Then Li and Wu will be playing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 and Piano Concerto No. 13 respectively.
A concerto is a classical music composition that highlights a solo instrument against the background of a full orchestra.
