Junk and pipes near the watertank of a building on Avenida do Nordeste caught fire yesterday afternoon, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement.

According to the statement, a security guard of the building informed the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and Public Security Police (PSP) yesterday about junk, waste pipes and exhaust pipes near the watertank next to the 16th floor corridor having caught fire.

The fire was put out before firefighters arrived at the scene, and they reported the case, which they considered suspicious, to the Judiciary Police. Although police officers could not reach the watertank, they saw some cigarette ends amongst the junk and assumed that they caused the fire.

No one was injured in the incident, and no one had reported property damage at the time of the statement.

The case has been transferred to the arson section of the Judiciary Police.
