A woman and her adult son have been hospitalised after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning in their flat, and both are in stable condition after emergency treatment, the Health Bureau (SSM) said at the weekend.

In a statement on Saturday, the bureau identified the two victims as a 47-year-old local woman and her 23-year-old son. The incident happened in their flat in Block 6 of the U Wa residential estate in Areia Preta district.

When the woman’s husband woke up at 2 a.m. on Saturday, he found that his son had passed out on a chair in the latter’s bedroom and woke his wife to help handle the incident, the statement said. The woman “immediately” passed out after entering the bathroom of the flat, the statement said, which did not say why the woman had entered the bathroom.
