The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that the local slaughterhouse would maintain its supply of fresh pork to the market despite the rising number of workers infected with COVID-19 recently.
The statement said that in response to the development of COVID-19, the slaughterhouse had activated its contingency plan for the its novel coronavirus prevention and control measure in the middle of this month to ensure the uninterrupted supply of fresh pork, the statement said.
The statement noted that a total of 421 pigs were slaughtered yesterday, 30 percent more than usual, and five cattle were slaughtered. 400 pigs will be supplied for slaughter to the local market today.
The statement said that nearly half of the staff in the slaughterhouse had been infected with COVID-19 virus, and the bureau had strengthened its preventive measures for the slaughterhouse by coordinating the deployment of staff to the slaughterhouse to ensure its daily operation, thereby ensuring the city’s stable supply of fresh pork.
In addition, the statement reported that the slaughterhouse did not cease operation three days after the winter solstice last Thursday, which is a traditional rest day for butchers in the market, and still insisted on slaughtering pigs every day to ensure steady supply of fresh meat.
