The public Macao Polytechnic University’s (MPU) Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies recently hosted its High Technology Seminar Series, with two lecture sessions conducted by Paradise Entertainment Limited Chairman Jay Chun (陳捷) and Zhao Kuo, aka Kuo Zhao, a computer science associate professor at Jinan University, according to an MPU statement late last month.
According to the statement, the seminars explored the development of advanced technology such as big data and the metaverse and discussed the application and importance of high tech in the development of gaming, tourism and other industries.
The first lecture, which was presented by Chun, introduced electronic gaming machines’ (EGM) evolution and discussed various technological applications in casinos ranging from cloud technology to big data, the statement noted. Chun pointed out that breakthrough technologies in the gaming industry are designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance customer experience and boost profitability in casinos.
The statement added that the second lecture, which was about blockchain technology, was delivered online by Zhao. He introduced blockchain’s concepts and its potential applications in the digital world and various sectors such as finance and entertainment activities. The statement said that he also talked about the metaverse and digital tourism’s marketing opportunities in promoting local tourist attractions.
Over 60 participants attended each lecture session, which included undergraduate and postgraduate students in gaming and recreation management, academic staff and researchers.
The statement did not say when exactly the two seminars were held on the MPU campus.
