The 2023 MGM Macao International Regatta will be held from today through Sunday, with 35 teams set to compete for championships, according to a Sports Bureau (ID) statement yesterday.

A press conference was held yesterday to announce the event’s details. The three competitions, the statement noted, are the Macao Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7 unified design group), the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC group), and the International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie 16 unified design group).

The statement pointed out that there are 11 teams in the Macao Cup International Regatta and nine in the GBA Regatta, all of which will compete in the waters south of Coloane’s Hac Sa Beach. Meanwhile, 15 teams in the International Catamaran Invitational will compete for the championship in the waters south of the Macau Channel off the Macau Science Centre.

A fleet parade will also take place at 9 a.m. today and on Sunday, the statement added. The participating vessels will set sail from Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, pass the Macau Science Centre, Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, sail under the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge (commonly known as the Old Bridge), and on to the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre.

The statement said that the organisers have also arranged for a spectating activity for the fleet parade and the International Catamaran Invitational on Sunday, with participants who have previously collected the tickets requested to arrive at the Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal at 7:30 a.m. on January 16 for boarding.

Moreover, a Hobie 16 boat will be displayed at MGM MACAU’s Grande Praça until Sunday, while the “2023 MGM MACAO International Regatta – Sailing Fun Day” will be held at MGM MACAU’s Vista from tomorrow to Sunday, the statement noted.

The ‘2023 MGM Macao International Regatta – Photography Competition’ will also be open for entries from January 9 to February 15, with details available at www.macaoregatta.com/photography_competition.
