A mainlander has been arrested for scamming a 19-year-old male by claiming that he could help him enter a casino and guarantee that he would win money for him, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Chan said the 56-year-old jobless suspect is surnamed Sun.

According to Chan, the victim, 19 years old at the time, gave Sun HK$50,000 in May 2019 as he believed him. Later on, the two attempted to enter a casino in Cotai, but the victim was barred by the security guard because of his age while Sun walked into the casino, after which the victim never saw him again and soon after reported the case to the police.

Chan said the CCTV footage in the casino showed that after Sun had entered the casino, he left immediately through another exit.

Sun was arrested on Sunday when he entered Macau via Barrier Gate checkpoint. Under questioning, he admitted cheating the victim and said that he had spent the money on his daily expenses.

Sun has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) where he faces a fraud charge, Chan said.
