Two locals have been separately arrested for drunk driving, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.

Lai identified the suspect in the first case as a jobless woman surnamed Lei who is in her thirties.

According to Lai, Lei and another driver got into a car accident on Saturday at 4 a.m. near Cotai’s Rotunda do Istmo. Both drivers were given breathalyser tests, one of whom tested negative, while the other one, Lei, was shown to have an alcohol concentration of 2.61 grammes per litre of blood. She admitted drinking alcohol the night before.

Meanwhile, Lai said that the suspect in the second case is an insurance agent surnamed Wong in his thirties.

According to Lai, Wong was stopped by officers in the wee hours of yesterday at a police roadblock for a regular check in the peninsula’s Avenida do Nordeste. Wong was reeking of alcohol, and a breathalyser test detected his alcohol concentration as 2.8 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.  He admitted drinking earlier that night.

Wong and Lei have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing drunk-driving charges, Lai said.
