The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) quoted Macau Slaughterhouse Limited’s notice in a statement yesterday that it will close from Sunday through next Thursday for the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday, and that normal slaughtering will resume next Friday.

In response to the increasing demand for fresh pork, the bureau has maintained close communication with both Nam Yue (Group) Co. Ltd. and Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited, which are Macau’s live swine suppliers, to jointly safeguard the quality, safety and supply of fresh food such as vegetables and meat, the statement said.

The statement pointed out that the number of live pigs supplied to Macau has been increased between last Monday and Saturday, with an average of about 350 pigs per day, which is about 25 percent more than usual.
