The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) is slated to launch a new Bachelor of Science degree programme in International Business and Innovative Communication (IBIC) for the 2024/2025 academic year, the tertiary education institution said in a recent statement.

The new four-year programme will be taught in English and will take effect after its gazettal, the statement noted, adding that it is a “timely response to the demand of local industries”.

The statement said that the programme’s purpose is “to nurture professionals in business, digital technology application and communication, providing an important talent pool for intersectoral cooperation and development of the Macau industries”.

The programme will be taught by academics and experienced industry professionals, the statement added. The courses include those related to the digital communications field such as AI in communication, media arts and design, as well as business and communication ethics. Management courses, including entrepreneurship and consumer behaviour, will also be included.

There will be in-depth classroom teaching and discussions, practical projects, a six-month internship, and overseas exchange programmes, the statement noted.

The statement said that the programme aims to develop students’ creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to “cope with the ever-changing business and communication environment and to remain competitive”.

Upon graduating, the statement noted that students may pursue careers in business or media organisations, as international business consultants, corporate public relations officers, and film and television media producers, among others, or become entrepreneurs, according to the statement.

The statement noted that admissions for IFTM’s bachelor’s degree programmes for the 2024/2025 academic year are open until June 30. More information is available on https://www.iftm.edu.mo/admission.
