Macau recorded 5.7 million visitor arrivals last year, a year-on-year decline of 26.0 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
According to a statement by the bureau yesterday, 5.1 million mainland Chinese visited Macau, accounting for 89.5 percent of Macau's visitor arrivals last year. A total of 513,447 Hong Kong residents and 67,303 Taiwan residents visited Macau last year.
A total of 241,186 visitors arrived by air.
In pre-COVID-19 pandemic 2019, Macau recorded 39.4 million visitor arrivals. Compared to 2019, Macau's number of visitor arrivals last year was down by 85.5 percent.
Macau recorded its first COVID-19 case on January 22, 2020.
COVID-19 control measures such as mandatory quarantine and border entry curbs have been drastically eased by the local government since early last month.
Macau's accumulated number of COVID-19 cases stood at 3,455 yesterday, when its death toll amounted to 116, according to officials statistics.
