Visitors and locals watch a traditional Chinese New Year (CNY) performance at Macau's UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ruins of St. Paul's today. Macau marked the first day of the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit with a string of festive activities today, including the generally well-received pedestrianisation of its main thoroughfare, Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (popularly known as San Ma Lou - New Road) during several days of the CNY holiday. Macau's tourism industry is reporting brisk business. Hotel room occupancy reportedly stands at up to 90 percent during the holiday. Over 90 percent of the CNY visitors are from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) headed by Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes has prepared a large number of celebratory events during the holiday. The local government gradually has eased most of its COVID-19 curbs since early last month. Photo: Xinhua/Cheong Kam Ka; caption: The Macau Post Daily
