An art exhibition titled “Evanescent” by local artist Leong Wai Lap (梁偉立) under the Resident Art Group Programme is being held in 10 Fantasia’s B07 hall at 10 Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro until April 15, with 12 prints and paintings on display.

The exhibition is organised by the Macao International Printmaking Arts Research Centre and sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM) and Cultural Development Fund in conjunction with 10 Fantasia and the District Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church.

A statement by the Macao International Printmaking Arts Research Centre said that “Evanescent” was the expression of Leong’s thoughts on his own life, which Leong considers happy times in life are short but beautiful. Through the expression of the good times in life in the creation, the artworks can show the real feelings in the heart, at the same time, he can rethink the wonderful times brought by life and art through the process of creating art, the statement added.

The statement quoted Leong as saying that the creation process was a channel of internal communication that enabled him to touch his soul, and make him feel happy and moved.

According to the statement, Leong, who was born in 1991 in Macau, graduated from the Visual Arts Education course of the then Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) in 2015, majoring in printmaking, and from the Master’s Programme of Fine Arts Department of National Taiwan Normal University in 2017, majoring in the Western Painting Group.

The statement noted that Leong received the “Best Creation Award” of the Western Painting Group in the “31st National Painting and Calligraphy Joint Exhibition” in Macau, the Top 10 excellent works of the Western Media category of the “2016 Macau Visual Art Annual Exhibition”, the Excellent Works Award in the “2018 Macau Visual Art Joint Exhibition”, and the Bronze Prize in the Macau (International) Tourist Souvenir Design Competition in 2016, when his artworks were selected for the Art For All Society (AFA) Autumn Salon. He also obtained the Print Creation Scholarship from National Taiwan Normal University Professor Liao Xiuping in 2016.

“I like to share and communicate my inner world with others through my works. At the same time, I also like to appreciate the individuality of each work. Every time I appreciate a work, it will lead me to think in a different direction and have a spiritual impact”, Leong said in the statement.

The exhibition opens daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Mondays) at 10 Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. Admission is free.
