A restaurant owner was arrested for selling alcoholic beverages without the proper licence, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Cheong identified the suspect as a 37-year-old local man surnamed Iun.

According to Chong, the Public Security Police received a report from a local resident at 11 p.m. on Tuesday that there was too much noise coming from a restaurant in Rua de Espectação de Almeida. Police officers who arrived at the scene discovered dozens of bottles of spirits and boxes of beer, as well as posters advertising alcoholic beverages. Two customers were found to have ordered beer worth 100 patacas in the restaurant.

The staff members of the restaurant could only present a licence for selling non-alcoholic beverages.

Under questioning, Iun admitted selling alcoholic beverages without a licence. Cheong added that the restaurant did not breach the noise regulations.

Cheong noted that Iun has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he faces a charge of selling alcoholic beverages without a licence.
