A local Vietnamese female security guard was arrested for taking a person’s phone that had been left on the street, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheuk Kou Chi said at a press conference yesterday.
Cheuk said that the suspect surnamed Pham is in her fifties.
Cheuk said that a woman reported to the police that when she was walking along Estrada de Adolfo Loureiro on Wednesday, she suddenly realised her phone worth 13,300 patacas was gone and searched for it on the street but was unable to find it.
According to Cheuk, after scrutinising their CCTV citywide camera system, the police identified Pham as the person who had picked up the phone. She was arrested on Thursday in her flat in Rua de Manuel de Arriaga. Pham admitted stealing the phone out of greed, adding that she had planned to keep the phone for personal use.
Pham has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Cheuk.
