The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) said in a statement yesterday that four of its faculty members received the 2022 JHTM Highly Commended Paper Award from the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management (JHTM) for their research article.

According to the statement, the winning article is titled “Destination governance in times of crisis and the role of public-private partnerships in tourism recovery from Covid-19: The case of Macao”. The awardees are Penny Wan Yim King, Li Xiangping, Virginia Meng-Chan Lau and Leonardo Don Dioko.

The statement noted that the study examined how public and private sectors partnered to spur the tourism industry’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the Macau government and the crisis leader’s “crucial roles” in tourism recovery.

JHTM, the statement added, provides three annual awards to “recognise and motivate high quality achievement in published research”, namely one “Best Paper Award” and two “Highly Commended Paper Awards”.

JHTM’s editorial team chooses papers based on quantitative analysis, which the statement noted includes the use of statistics, and the “qualitative assessment of the papers’ contribution to the research field”.
