A casino dealer was arrested at his flat in Nape on Monday morning for beating his girlfriend, who has been living with him for eight years, several times over trivial matters and relationship problems, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a special press conference yesterday.
According to Leng, the 31-year-old local suspect, who is surnamed Lou, lived with the victim in her twenties, their underage son and daughter, and a domestic helper.
Leng said that the Judiciary Police received a referral from the Public Security Police (PSP) on Monday morning to investigate a domestic violence case.
According to Leng, early Monday morning Lou returned home and checked his girlfriend’s mobile phone, during which Lou found that the victim had been out with friends the night before, so he kept berating her. At about 7 a.m. yesterday when the victim was about to leave the bedroom, Lou grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into the living room where he hit the victim’s head against hard objects and the flat’s metal gate, all of which was done in front of their eldest daughter, Leng said.
Lou then kicked the victim, who was only wearing underwear, out of the house, Leng pointed out, adding that the daughter opened the door a few minutes later to let the victim back in. The domestic helper called the police.
Leng did not specify when the domestic helper called the police.
Leng said that PSP officers quickly arrived at the scene and intercepted Lou, and then transferred the case to the Judiciary Police for follow-up.
A PJ investigation confirmed that Lou had attacked the victim a total of four times over the years, according to Leng, who added that the victim was beaten by Lou in January last year, but she did not pursue legal action against Lou, as her injuries were only minor.
The medical examination found that the victim suffered head, scalp and knee injuries, Leng pointed out.
Under questioning, Lou admitted that he grabbed his girlfriend by the back of her neck and pushed her out of the flat, but refused to reveal other details.
Leng said that Lou was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing an aggravated domestic violence charge.
