A 38-year-old former casino company clerk was arrested on Wednesday at his flat in the northern district for fabricating a vehicle registration number plate that was authorised by his workplace in Cotai for free access to its carpark, and using it to avoid paying parking fees totalling 21,990 patacas, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a special press conference yesterday.
According to Leng, the male suspect, who had been fired by the casino last month, is surnamed Lei.
Leng said that the Judiciary Police received a report from the casino company last month that one of its employees used the bogus vehicle registration plates to enter and exit the casino’s carpark, so as to be exempt from paying the parking fees.
The Judiciary Police identified Lei as the suspect, Leng said, adding that between March last year and January, Lei used the fake vehicle registration plates on at least 19 occasions, involving at least 733 hours, corresponding to unpaid fees totalling 21,990 patacas.
Under questioning, Lei admitted that during his employment as a clerk in the casino, he was aware that the company would waiver the parking fees for authorised vehicle registration plates of specific organisations, associations and departments so he fabricated the “vehicle registration number plate” on his office computer in January 2021, and stuck the plates over his original ones before entering the carpark, according to Leng.
Leng pointed out that PJ officers found a file containing the bogus vehicle registration plate in Lei’s office.
Lei was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of fraud and document forgery, according to Leng.
