The Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) said in a statement on Friday that the European Union’s 27 member states, Switzerland and Norway will implement new requirements for EMS, parcels, registered small packets and small packets (except letters) from March 1.

According to the statement, a preliminary assessment for mail items being sent to or transiting through any of the countries will be conducted by their respective customs authorities before departing Macau. The statement noted that mail items, except letters, without the corresponding electronic customs declaration may be rejected by the destination’s customs.

Customs information must be submitted through https://cds.ctt.gov.mo or via CTT’s app. The information, according to the statement, should include the recipients’ address, email address, the local contact number, HS Code, category of items, quantity, value, and weight. Upon completion, a QR code will be generated, the statement said.

The QR code must be presented to CTT’s counter staff prior to posting the items. The staff, the statement underlined, will check whether there are discrepancies between the declared information and the items before the parcel/packet is accepted.

The statement added that senders will be requested to provide the required information of items that have not been accurately declared. The items may be delayed during customs clearance or will be returned if the information is unavailable.

Senders should provide their local contact number and email address when posting to supplement the customs declaration and cooperate with the inspection for the mailed items. The statement noted that the items will be destroyed while no postage will be refunded if the sender’s contact information is missing on the returned items.

The statement said that the relevant call or email will not require senders to provide personal information. For any doubts or enquiries, members of the public can call 8396 8815.
