The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday that local travel trade organisations have invited over 60 delegates of Taiwan’s travel industry for a five-day familiarisation trip, which started on Tuesday, and a networking seminar.

According to the statement, the fact-finding trip and seminar have been arranged by the Travel Industry Council of Macau, Macau Travel Agency Association and Association of Macao Tourist Agents.

The delegation visited tourist attractions and facilities in Macau and Hengqin for “a first-hand experience of brand-new tourism elements” at the start of the visit, the statement noted, aiming to inspire the design of Macau travel products and the Macau-Hengqin twin-destination tourism products to be launched in the Taiwan market in the future, the statement underlined.

Meanwhile, during yesterday’s Taiwan and Macau travel trade networking seminar, the statement said, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes underlined that she hopes that industry operators from both places can use the event to “redevelop visitor source markets and invigorate the tourism industry and economy”.

The statement added that an MGTO official also presented Macau’s latest travel information to the attendees, including delegates from 58 Taiwan travel agencies. There was also a business matching session, which was joined by industry delegates from 77 local hotels and travel agencies, among others.

The statement underlined that the Taiwan region is among the city’s most important visitor markets. Airline services between Macau and the island have been increasing successively since entry curbs to the city were lifted early last month, the statement noted. MGTO has started its marketing campaign for Taiwan such as special travel offers to Macau and inviting key opinion leaders (KOLs).
