Resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) said in a statement on Wednesday that its non-profit space, GalaxyArt, has hosted activities for its “Artists-in-Residence: Summer Love – Live Mural Painting and Exhibition” for students, as well as parent-child workshops.

The exhibition, the statement noted, features five resident artists from Hong Kong and Macau who collaborated on a 50-metre mural inspired by the theme “Summer Love”. Each artist painted a 10-metre section of the mural live at GalaxyArt for six weeks while members of the public observed the art-in-progress action, according to the statement, with the completed works currently on display.

During the exhibition’s live-art event, the statement said, GEG invited over 10 local students through the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office to participate in one of the art workshops. The participants worked alongside resident artist and Hong Kong illustrator Kristopher Ho to create a painting while “enjoying an interesting art jamming experience”.

The statement quoted an activity participant, Form Five student Che I Ieng, as saying that through the GEG-organised event, she was “able to explore a variety of artistic forms, discover the innovative insights of artists from various backgrounds and enhance my understanding of the discipline in general”.

Meanwhile, 30 master’s degree students from the University of Macau’s (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) were invited for an on-site discussion with one of the resident artists, with students asking questions in a “dynamic and pleasant ambience”, the statement said. The interaction enabled them to understand the artist’s inspiration, concepts and processes to “enhance their interest and art appreciation abilities”.

It also fostered dialogue about the “current status and future prospects of the creative industry”, the statement added.

The parent-child workshops, meanwhile, helped participants create “unique art pieces and enjoy the pleasure of artistic creation in a summer setting”, according to the statement.

Moreover, GalaxyArt has hosted a range of initiatives such as art workshops, artist dialogues, parent-child workshops, and over 30 other art activities and guided tours for over 600 students and teachers from local primary and secondary schools and universities to “strengthen their artistic and cultural literacy and nurture their potential in related fields”.

The activities also aimed to “encourage greater appreciation and knowledge of art and culture among Macau’s youth”, the statement said.

Sheng Kung Hui (SKH) is the Cantonese name of the Anglican Church in Hong Kong and Macau.
