Two mainlanders were arrested on Monday for selling cocaine, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a special press conference yesterday.
The two suspects are surnamed Wu but with no family connections. The 22-year-old Wu is a labourer while the 27-year-old Wu is a businessman.
According to Ho, the Judiciary Police had recently received a tip-off that two men were selling drugs in the San Ma Lou area to people visiting night entertainment venues. PJ officers identified the Wus as the suspects and arrested them at a hotel in the city centre.
The officers searched them and later their hotel guestroom and seized cocaine weighing a total of 35.58 grammes with an estimated market value of 120,000 patacas.
Under questioning, the Wus told the police that they were hired by a Hong Kong drug gang to sell cocaine in Macau, adding that they were paid HK$1,000 daily. Ho said that the duo tested negative for drugs, adding that PJ officers are still investigating the source of the drugs and how they were trafficked to Macau.
The Wus were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday. Each faces a drug-selling charge, according to Ho.
Cocaine, bank notes and smart phones seized from the mainland suspects are displayed in a pressroom of the Judiciary Police (PJ) headquarters yesterday.
